Greetings Ames First United Methodist Church Family,
In James 4:14-15, we read: Yet you do not even know what tomorrow will bring… Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wishes, we will live and do this or that.” I definitely did not know that 2022 would bring me to Iowa and you likely did not know that 2022 would bring you a pastor from Mississippi! Yet, I definitely feel that the Lord has been at work in this appointment process. I have heard such good things about Ames FUMC and I feel blessed to be given the opportunity to serve as your next Senior Pastor.
I was asked to share a little about me, so here goes: I grew up in Pearl, MS, and currently reside in Walls, MS where I have served as Pastor of Minor Memorial UMC since 2011. A graduate of Delta State University in Cleveland, MS and Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, MO, I was ordained an Elder in The United Methodist Church at the 2010 Mississippi Annual Conference. In addition to being a pastor, I have past experience as a high school math teacher, youth minister, and chaplain intern. I met my husband, Adam, in seminary, so I am one-half of a clergy couple; Adam currently serves as a Chaplain with Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare in Memphis, TN and will be looking for a job as a Hospital Chaplain in the Ames/Des Moines area.
Seeing the church serve both locally and globally is a passion of mine; I have organized countless local mission opportunities and have led numerous domestic and international mission trips, including leading a district mission team to El Salvador for six years prior to the COVID pandemic. I also have a passion for seeing people draw closer to Jesus and grow as disciples, and I believe this is best done through building relationships. I truly do look forward to getting to know each of you individually and learning your story. Plus, I will need your help in becoming acclimated to the area, so I hope some of you will be willing to show Adam and me around!
While Adam and I do not have biological children, we do love being bunny parents to our four rescue bunnies! As you get to know me, you will learn that I am competitive by nature and am always up for a game night. I also enjoy baking, traveling, and cheering on the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs…and I look forward to becoming a Cyclones fan!
As we enter into these months of transition, let us be in prayer for one another and let us keep our spirits open as to how God’s Holy Spirit will be at work! As John Wesley reminds us, “The best of all is, God is with us!” I will definitely be praying for you and I appreciate your prayers for Adam and me. I give thanks for the ministry of Rev. Dr. Kerrin Kirkpatrick and pray that these last months under her leadership will be fruitful and joy-filled for you all even though I know good-byes can be hard. I look forward to serving alongside Pastor Nikki, all the staff of AFUMC, and all of you! I’ll be there soon…after packing a lot of boxes!
Blessings for a FANTASTIC April!
