Ash Wednesday is on Valentine’s Day this Year as the Season of Lent Begins

Service : 2/14/18 7:00pm at Ames Church of Christ

In the church, we move from the excitement of Christ and the growing revelation of the Season after the Epiphany into the somber period known as Lent.  This is a time for the people of God to reflect on how we can draw closer to God. Tradition says that Lent is a time of “letting go”, giving something up as an act of penitence or as a way to renew a relationship with Christ.  This year’s Ash Wednesday service will be at 7:00p.m. and held at Ames Church of Christ, across the street from us.

Pastor Mary Jane from First Christian/Disciples of Christ will be preaching and our pastors will be leading in the liturgy for Holy Communion.  The ashes that are used in this worship service are a sign of our desire to grow closer in loving God.  As Lent begins take time on this February 14 to reflect on the things that fill your days and how they connect to what you value in life. Consider what faith practice you might engage in during this year’s Lent: meditation, prayer, reading scripture, charitable giving, and/or attending regular worship times.
